Radiology

Radiology is a safe and pain-free way of looking inside your pet’s body to examine their bones and evaluate certain organs.

At Saltwater Animal Hospital, we depend on radiology when diagnosing everything from pregnancy to injuries. Our state-of-the-art digital x-ray equipment enables us to capture detailed images in an instant, and we are pleased to perform comprehensive radiology services for pets in Des Moines and the surrounding areas.

What Is Radiology?

Radiology is the process of using radiation to look inside the body to detect things that may not be apparent during a normal physical exam.

Radiographs – most commonly referred to as x-rays – are images created using radiation that show the body’s internal structures. The amount of radiation a pet is exposed to is minimal. In fact, the level of exposure is so low that this type of imaging is safe even for pregnant females and very young animals.

We often use x-rays to examine a patient’s bones and ligaments to diagnose injuries. We also use them to assess the shape, position, and size of several organs, including the heart, lungs, and intestines. Our veterinarians also rely on radiology when diagnosing a wide range of conditions, including osteoarthritis, bladder stones, and more.
